What is a CDN?
How to use CDN to better your website performances, and what tools should you use
CDN or Content Delivery Network is a group of servers, distributed throughout the world, that speed up the delivery of web content by bringing it closer to where the user is located. Thanks to caching, a process that temporarily stores copies of files, you will be able to access internet content from a web-enabled device or browser more quickly. CDN uses caching of content in proxy servers near your physical location so that whatever you need to do online you can do it without waiting for content to load!
Security and protection from attackers looking to exploit data are two man concerns of all major companies. These type of attacks not only will tarnish a company’s image but are also very costly, DoS and web-based attacks have been found to be the costliest for organizations.
Given all of these risks, ensuring a secure website and data protections is a fundamental requirement for any Content Delivery Network. Today’s CDNs have a full stack of DDoS mitigations services to defend against even the largest attacks.
Cloudflare is one of the best tools out there to provide a safe and quality CDN system. As of today, Cloudflare is one of the world’s largest networks and it is not only one of the best Content Delivery Network to use but it is also easy to implement and develop. Cloudflare protects, fastens and balances, even on a global scale, the sites and apps on which it is implemented.
Cloudflare main features are:
- WAF (Web Application Firewall)
- CDN (Content Delivery Network)
- Static Resources Optimization
Plus, another recently added functionality is the Dynamic Content CDN also called RAILGUN; a feature that optimizes on a global scale the access to data sources.
Alias has implemented Content Delivery Network on several of its websites and it has always proved to be the best choice for our clients. Before implementing tools such as Cloudflare we inspect the website and decide what can be cached and how we can better a site so that it will use Cloudflare without any issues or delays.
