Caterpillar is the largest manufacturer of construction machinery in the world. With almost a hundred years of history, it employs more than 100,000 people with a turnover of over 47 billion dollars (2020 data).
We develop, maintain and support the platform owned by CAT© that helps Dealers handle rental operations.
The project originated from the profound Alias’ expertise in the equipment rental business and e-commerce and it has developed thanks to our collaboration with the Caterpillar Team.
The software is currently being used in Europe and Asia by the official dealers of the different countries.
The platform allows for the complete, integrated and omnichannel management of the rental process, from generating a lead to the closing of the contract, from the delivery and billing process to dynamic pricing and much more. It also operates within multiple apps and user interfaces, from the website to the smartphone app, and kiosks stand which are found in physical stores.
As usual, the starting point from which we based our project was the user’s experience. The software was developed around the idea of an intuitive interface, accessible 24/7, in which with a few clicks the client can verify the availability of the machinery, book a rental, receive a quotation, pay the invoices, contact customer service and much more.
Around the core platform for the CAT© rental management, we have contributed to the creation of a series of personalised interfaces to meet the needs of the various actors involved:
We firmly believe that to provide a complete service to our clients, creating and deploying software is not enough. For the CAT© rental platform, we also curate the dealer assistance, which starts right after the go-live phase.
Training is also fundamental, and we provide it for the current and future users of the platform. This can be done either face to face or virtually, with a dedicated team able to speak over seven languages and who can adapt to the client’s needs.
After years of growth, we work continuously to improve and further develop it.
Today the platform is used by Caterpillar’s dealers in Switzerland, Poland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania and China.
After refining the software management with a process of continuous development, Caterpillar has also entrusted us with an important communication project: the creation of a series of animated videos to illustrate the main functions of the software, from the user’s live experience with the Digital Kiosk to the Companion App features. Each video is accompanied by an editable presentation that allows Caterpillar dealers to distribute the product to retailers in Europe and beyond.
We have developed a complete visual study outlining the general style, colours, graphics, icons and animation models. We started making videos, which have been translated into six languages, accompanied by subtitle files and editable work materials. This allows individual dealers to customize their communication products and adapt them to their own context. A real Tool Kit!
We recently worked with Caterpillar on the ideation and creation of animated videos to promote the Customer Portal of CatRentalStore.com. We wanted to be able to communicate the key features of the available services through quick and effective videos.
